Big sis Carnie, is probably the closest person to her. According to their mom, the two were inseperable, "Carnie was always protective of Wendy.....Wendy always kind of tagged along but Carnie never minded."
Carnie hosted a critically acclaimed television talk show for Warner Bros. The 150 episodes of the show ran from early September of 1994 untill the Spring of 1995.
Wendy speaks on big sis :
"Carnie's very sensitive and emotional....Anything can get her to cry." |
Marilyn Sandra Rovell or better known as Marilyn Wilson. She was also a singer. A member of The Honeys, with her sister Diane. The Honeys sung back-up vocals on many Beach Boys recordings, including tracks like "This Whole World" and "Forever". Marilyn married Brian on December 7, 1964 at Los Angeles' city courthouse. Their marriage lasted for 15 years (They were divorced on January 23, 1979). Now Marilyn is active in the real estate business.
In 1993, The Honeys reunited, with an extra member Ginger Blake, for Carnie and Wendy's christmas album. They sung back-up vocals for "Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer".
Brian Douglas Wilson (b. June 20 1942, Inglewood, CA).
In 1961, Brian with his brothers Carl and Dennis, his cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine formed the Beach Boys. This group became the most commercially successful American group of the sixties. In the beginning, Brian had a big role as the songwriter and producer, but due to his drug dependency and the mental instability, his contribution for the Beach Boys was limited. After divorce, he slowly lost touch with his daughters, especially because of the controversial therapy by his psychiatrist Dr. Eugene Landy. (April 17, 1989 , Landy surrendered his license to practice therapy after an investigation by the California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance of alleged improprieties). Since then, he has been reconstructing his life. He became more active in the music industry, and he became more closer to his daughters. "I'm so damn proud of Wendy and Carnie." he has said, "I've been following their record's chart position like I used to my own songs."
Now he lives in Chicago with his second wife, Melinda, and baby daughter, Daria Rose.
Wendy talks :
"He's very eccentric. He's like a child, very whimsical and impatient. We laugh a lot." |
Who doesn't know about this group. IMHO the best female group of the nineties. The history of this trio starts from 1973 when they recorded their first (unreleased) song together "Take Me Out to The Ballgame" as The Satellites. In 1986, Chynna's cousin and now one of the Wilson sister's best buddy, Owen Vanessa Elliot, had an idea to record an anti-drug single featuring the offspring of 60s musicians. So, Carnie, Wendy, Chynna and Owen made a demo of Stevie Nick's "The Wild Heart". Later they decided to go as a trio, because Owen didn't fit in the harmony. Then they started the works on their first album "Wilson Phillips" that included 5 big hits and made 10 million copies sold. In 1992, they released their second album "Shadows and Lights", although the sales weren't as big as the first album, but in my opinion it is more mature in the harmony, orchestration, and the vocalization. After S&L, the trio broke up, with Chynna going solo, and no more news about Wilson Phillips (I'm still crossing my fingers for a reunion, though). But the end is only the beginning.
What does Wendy think about the Wilson Phillips era ?
"The Wilson Phillips time will always be a very special period of our lives. We just hope that one day we can sing together again."
"Our three-part harmony just felt so natural. My sister naturally goes low, I naturally go high, and Chynna just fit right into the middle. And we realized that we didn't want to do just one charity record. We wanted to form a group." |
After the Wilson Phillips era, the Wilson Sisters made a Christmas Album, including one of my favorite christmas song "Hey Santa". After the christmas album in 1993 they were vacuumed for a few years. Wendy kept on polishing her songwriting skills by collaborating with various Los Angeles musicians, while Carnie hosted a talk show and made exercise videos. The best part is their reconciliation with their dad, in 1994, and they teamed up with ther genius father, Brian, releasing a new album "The Wilsons".
Now what does Wendy think about this new album ?
"I feel more personally connected with this album than any album, probably because I wrote so much more."
"It's straight from the soul, really." |
